Twenty years ago, many of us found a kids' show with a quirky name:
"Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future". It didn't take long to
realize that this was no ordinary kids' show. The special effects, the
characters, the storylines - they all combined to form a twenty-two minute show
that kept us at the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting the next episode to find
out what was next in Lord Dread's plan and how Jonathan Power and his team
would defend what remained of humanity.
We were left at the end of the first season with explosions ringing through
the Power Base, Pilot and Blastarr trapped inside, Dread giving himself to the
'final commitment' and an uncertain future for the Resistance.
The questions that rang through our heads would never be answered, as the
show was cancelled. An entire second season had been scripted, but would remain
on paper only. Fans were left hanging.
Would Dread win the war? Would Power be able to overcome the losses he'd
suffered to continue the fight his father started? What was to become of Pilot
and Blastarr beneath the rubble of the Power Base?
Twenty years later, we still don't know the answers to these questions,
although there have been hints at what was to have been revealed in the
following seasons. Some of us have talked with the writers or read some of the
unfilmed scripts. Some of us have contacted the actors and actresses involved
with the show. Some of us have resorted to writing the ending ourselves, as a
last ditch effort to gain closure. (And, of course, twist things our own way -
Pilot CAN make it out of that base alive!)
To have remained fans of the show after twenty years says something about the
quality of the writing and the life the actors and actresses breathed into the
characters. This website is devoted to those who have enjoyed "Captain
Power and the Soldiers of the Future" - from the countless people who
brought the show to life to those who show it to the newest generation, and all
those in between.
